Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played individually (singles) or in pairs (doubles) on a rectangular court divided by a net. The objective is to hit a lightweight, felt-covered rubber ball over the net into the opponent’s court, with the aim of making it land within the court boundaries, while the opponent tries to return the ball. The game is played using rackets, which are strung with cord across an oval frame, and features a range of strokes such as forehands, backhands, serves, and volleys. Points are awarded based on whether the opponent fails to return the ball correctly.

Tennis has various formats and scoring systems, with matches commonly played in sets. The four main tournaments, known as Grand Slam events, include the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Tennis is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It is known for its significant cultural history and has produced numerous famous athletes and iconic moments in sport. The game emphasizes agility, mental focus, strategy, and physical endurance.
